Fundraising. Support. Education.
Transition House Foundation was originally formed as a fundraising committee of the Cape Breton Transition House Board. In 1986 it was decided that the committee should form its own Foundation, independent from the Cape Breton Transition House. Originally incorporated as the “Friends of Cape Breton Transition House” under the province of Nova Scotia Societies Act as a registered charity, the purpose of the Foundation was and remains the raising, managing and allocating funds in the support of the Cape Breton Transition House. We value donors, accountability and community support.
Although Cape Breton Transition House is funded through the Department of Community Services for staffing, major repairs and major household expenses. Transition House relies on the Foundation for many of the necessary extras such as helping a woman and her children during an emergency relocation; outreach retreat; clothes and personal items; furniture for the shelter and many of the day to day needs that come with running a shelter.
The Foundation assists with community education by raising awareness about gender based violence, domestic abuse and sexualized violence.
