about

About TORONTO UNITED MENNONITE CHURCH

Toronto United Mennonite Church (TUMC) is a small and active faith community drawn from a variety of professions and backgrounds across the greater Toronto area. The congregation is made up of many families, single adults, seniors and children. We share our well-used building with our partners: the Mennonite New Life Church, a Spanish-speaking congregation; and the Mennonite New Life Centre, an organization that offers settlement services and training to immigrants and refugees.

Our Mission

We are the heirs of a Christian movement called Anabaptism, which arose as part of the 16th century Protestant Reformation and stressed the importance of personal commitment to Christ, following Jesus as a role model for daily living, a shared life of service within and beyond the Christian community, rejecting violence, and promoting peacemaking as an important mission of God's people. Today, we continue to seek ways to live those values in an urban, postmodern context.

We support the work of Mennonite Church Canada and our regional conference, Mennonite Church Eastern Canada, as well as Mennonite World Conference and Mennonite Central Committee (international relief, development and peace work). Locally, we are involved with St. Clair O'Connor Community (a multi-generational residence and nursing home); refugee sponsorship and settlement and Aurora House (transitional housing for victims of human trafficking or abuse).
