February, 2021: COVID-19 – Message from the schools that we support in Guatemala:

Due to class size restrictions and the capacity of the school to deal with Covid-19, the class sizes are now limited to 10 students in order to comply with protocol. The students are only allowed to attend class once a week, on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. This new protocol is going to have a huge impact on the ability of the students to get an education. They have started classes with the hybrid education modality (blended and study guides) while the pandemic lasts.

The boys and girls are very happy and happy to go back to school. Our work team is committed to providing and facilitating free comprehensive training and education, with all health and capacity biosafety protocols, to prevent covid-19 infections in the educational community.

In Guatemala and anywhere in the world there are cases of covid-19 every day. In the community of Sanitary Landfill zone 3 there have also been cases of the virus, but people have recovered at home. People have remained anonymous when they are sick with the virus since they are discriminated against and neighbors can remove them from their homes. That is why they maintain discretion when they get sick.

Thanks to people like you, they stand in solidarity with our educational mission and are part of the continuity of education for low-income boys and girls from the garbage dump in zone 3 Guatemala City. We are very grateful for their love, closeness and solidarity with the families of our students.

We share with you the matrix of our hybrid education modality plan for the 2021 school year while the pandemic lasts.

• Teaching: Mental health program (for the school of the garbage dump), English, mathematics, home economics etc.
• School supplies: breakfast program and vitamins, instructional materials, backpacks etc.
• Infrastructure improvements: Aquaponics (Aquaculture + Hydroponics), potable water projects, school administration systems, repairing existing classrooms.
