Learning for Every Stage of Life
At the Timmins Learning Centre, our mission is to help individuals and families in our region reach their full potential by providing learner-centered literacy, numeracy and essential skills programs. We strive to be part of a community-based network that helps individuals and families achieve success by supporting and encouraging lifelong learning.
Key Programs
The Timmins Learning Centre has two main programs: Tutoring Services for children and Literacy & Basic Skills for adults.
The Tutoring Program (Homework Club) provides one-hour per week of private tutoring. It is a bilingual program designed for children in Grades 1 to 12 who face difficulty in school with reading, writing and/or math. This program serves over 80 children each year. We also run a learning-focused Summer Camp that offers fun and engaging activities for kids covering a wide range of topics, including reading, mathematics, science, social studies, and art.
The Adult Literacy Program provides free reading, writing, math, and computer instruction. We help adults improve their skills for work, further education or independence. This program serves approximately 30-40 learners annually.
Why We Need Your Help
We offer our children's programs to families at a low cost to ensure that every child gets the opportunity to succeed. To do this, we rely on donations and fundraising activities so that we can continue providing this much-needed program in the community. Over the past year, we have seen a drastic increase in demand for tutoring services due to changes in the education system in the wake of the pandemic. Children have been falling behind in school and parents are turning to us to help support their children get back on track.
