The Stop strives to increase access to healthy food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds health and community, and challenges inequality.

About Us

For 40 years, The Stop Community Food Centre has been at the forefront of dignified, innovative programs that provide access to healthy food; build skills, health, hope, and community; and confront the underlying issues that lead to poverty and hunger. Our wide range of programs include drop-in meals, a food bank, community kitchens and gardens, perinatal and family support, civic engagement, and children and youth engagement.

We believe that access to healthy food is a basic human right.

Our Impact

In our 2023/2024 financial year, we've seen food insecurity in our local community like never before. Here are a few of the headline statistics from our most recent Impact Report.

• 28,688 individuals were reached through our food bank - a 32% increase over the prior year.
• The cost of a single food hamper almost doubled to $87 from 2021. 
• 3,955 families with three people or more were served in our food bank - a 40% increase.
• 73,092 fresh, nutritious meals served to the community. 
• Our volunteers donated 23,179 hours of their time - that's over 2.6 years!
