Science East Science Centre

Established in 1994, Science East’s mission is to inspire and inform through hands-on science experiences. Open throughout the year, all ages can enjoy the over 150 hands-on and interactive exhibits exploring technology, optical illusions, energy, crime forensics, animals, dinosaurs, anatomy, insects, deep space and more! Located in a former Victorian-era jail built in 1842, its exhibits, camps, school programs and events attract over 16,000 people each year with a further 40,000 people participating in extensive outreach programs in every region of the province. Science East offers Atlantic Canada’s only outdoor science playground, combining physical activity with building knowledge and skills in science and technology. Programs and services are offered in both French and English. In 2014, the centre won the Best Outreach Program Award from the Canadian Association of Science Centres, given each year for the best onsite or offsite educational, interpretive, or public program in Canada.
