Our Mission
The Savary Island Land Trust (SILT) is dedicated to the preservation of natural areas and biodiversity on Savary Island for present and future generations.
About THE SAVARY ISLAND LAND TRUST SOCIETY
The Savary Island Land Trust Society (SILT) began with the vision to save the heart of Savary, the only wilderness and the only trail network on the Island. In 1995, there was no protected land on Savary Island and the last undeveloped district lot (350 acres) was threatened by subdivision and development.
All levels of government, private donors, SILT and The Nature Trust of BC worked towards protecting this island treasure and in 2001 The Nature Trust of BC acquired 50% interest. In 2018 with the help of the Friends of Savary and SILT, the Nature Trust of BC acquired the remaining interest in the Heart of Savary and the vision came true.
Over the same period, generous donations of land and funds have allowed SILT to acquire 21 parcels of conservation land for a total of 18 acres through out Savary Island. With 1500 small lots on tiny, rare and fragile Savary Island, there is much more to do.
With your help, SILT is continuing its legacy of conservation and is working to acquire more greenspace on this precious piece of paradise to protect for generations to come.
Today 43% of Savary Island is protected, we would like to see 50% of the island protected and we need your help to do that. Donations to the Savary Island Nature Legacy Fund will help us get closer to this goal.
Donations to our Spirit of Savary Stewardship Fund will help to a look after lands we hold and support stewardship on crown lands. Donations to the Learning Legacy Fund supports public education about Savary's ecology.
