Our Mission
Help Give Homeless and At-Risk Girls Their Future Back
About Safe Haven Foundation
Safe Haven Foundation has been keeping homeless and at-risk girls safe, off the streets and in school for over 24 years. Haven’s Way®, our innovative, long-term supportive housing program for girls aged 14-24, opened in November 2000 and 110 youth have called it home with an average length of stay being 2.5 years. Our newest initiative, Haven’s Harbour, provides housing with supports for youth ages 18-29, who are graduating from our Haven’s Way program, or youth in the community who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness or precariously housed.
Youth entering Haven’s Harbour seek the stability of stable and secure housing to pursue their post-secondary education goals and will be able to practice their life skills while living independently. This new residence has increased the number of young people we serve by 150% which equates to 3,285 bed nights per year for youth who are safely housed with access to education. It also increases the positive impact for their communities of families and natural supports. In addition to subsidized housing, Haven’s Harbour will have an on-site Community Hub which is targeted to open in mid-2025. Once completed, it will have designated spaces including a cultural and learning centre, gym, community teaching kitchen, program, patio and outdoor spaces, all creating opportunities to build community and advance the youth’s living skills.
We provide a continuum of support for youth in Haven’s Way, Haven’s Harbour and other Alumni to ensure these young people have a sense of belonging and a family forevermore. Our Educational Bursary and Therapeutic Support programs provide opportunities to pursue post-secondary education, explore their individual passions and opportunities for personal growth and well-being.
