Our Mission
Help Give Homeless and At-Risk Girls Their Future Back
About Safe Haven Foundation
Founded in 1996 Safe Haven Foundation opened our founding program Haven's Way™ homes in 2000. Haven's Way provides a Safe Haven for homeless and at-risk girls to heal and work through their issues, complete their education, and learn valuable life skills; allowing them to become self-reliant contributing members of our society. We walk alongside newcomer youth who have little to no family in Canada helping them navigate the immigration systems and enrolling them in school. We provide a safe place for youth who identify with the LGBTQ2S+ community and allowing them time and space to who they are and create their identity.
We provide safe, long-term home in a loving family environment with all the necessities of life, plus extensive mental health and emotional supports. Haven's Way also delivers Therapeutic Recreation and Educational Scholarship Programs. Many of our girls have never had the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities, and through our Therapeutic Recreation Program girls have the opportunity to pursue their passions, and build self esteem while becoming further entrenched in the community. Our Scholarship Program assists youth with the costs of post-secondary education, setting them up for a lifetime of self-sufficiency and allowing them to create futures of endless possibilities.
Our Alumni Program provides a continuum of supports to youth who have transitioned out of Haven's Way. They can access the Therapeutic Recreation and Educational Scholarship Programs and are given guidance and light-touch support by our Program team. Our goal is to ensure they can continue on their path to independence and self-sufficiency and have a continued sense of belonging and a family forevermore.
Unlike other programs, there is no time limit on how long a girl can stay, Haven's Way duplicates that of a loving and supportive family environment. Homeless and at-risk girls between the ages of 14-24 are served, with girls graduating from the program when it is mutually determined they are ready to live independently. We are proud to say that over 85 youth have called Haven's Way home and none of them have returned to homelessness.
