The Riverwood Conservancy

about

The Riverwood Conservancy is a volunteer-driven and member-based charity that protects Riverwood, a 150-acre oasis of woodlands, ravines, gardens, creeks, ponds, meadows, and trails in the heart of Mississauga, Ontario. With abundant wildlife that includes deer, beavers, mink, and over 180 bird species, Riverwood is an incredibly diverse ecosystem, nourished by the Credit River.

In the face of climate change, the wetlands and wooded areas of Riverwood are more important than ever to protect against flooding, offer respite in extreme heat, and act as a carbon sink – an area that absorbs more carbon than it releases and lowers the concentration of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Our mission is to protect Riverwood’s natural heritage, and to enrich the enjoyment of visitors of all ages and abilities. We accomplish this through education, community engagement, and conservation activities. Our programs and events welcome over 10,000 community members annually with the support of over 2,000 volunteers.

Founded in 1985 as the Mississauga Garden Council, today The Riverwood Conservancy works with like-minded groups and individuals to enable people of all cultures, ages, and abilities to respectfully connect with nature.
