About THE PRESERVATION OF AGRICULTURAL LANDS SOCIETY
Established in 1976, PALS is the longest standing farmland preservation group in Canada.Through research, education and participation in national, provincial and local meetings, its members have raised the level of understanding Canada-wide about the very special nature of the 15,000 acres of tender fruitland and equal amount of grape lands, in Niagara, where the combination of soils and climate ( as provided by the interaction of the Niagara Escarpment and Lake Ontario ( and the Fonthill Kame in south Niagara) allows for the growing of the best tender fruit in North America These minuscule lands, when compared with the hundreds of thousands of acres of class 1-3 farmlands in Ontario and 2-3 million acres of class 1-3 farmland in Canada, are under constant threat of urban uses. consequently, Niagara fruit lands are a National, Provincial and Local resource that PALS is determined to protect for future generations .
