The Pictou County Fuel Fund is committed to providing short term assistance for those who do not have options and face the prospects of an unheated home environment during the winter months, with the aim of "No Child Should Go Cold in Pictou County".

The Pictou County Fuel Fund was formed by the Pictou County Council of Churches in response to the need it saw within the communities it serves. Fuel was first dispensed during the 2007-2008 season. The Fuel Fund is a volunteer driven organization with the sole purpose of providing short-term fuel/heating support for those who find themselves in emergency situations. The Fuel Fund does not receive any government funding, relying entirely on the donations of individuals, churches, municipal governments, schools and corporations.

Now, more than ten years later, the Fuel Fund is accessed through the Pictou County Crime Prevention organization who have partnered with the Fuel Fund to receive and vet applications for heating support.
