The Manitoba Historical Society (1879) - the oldest organization in Western Canada dedicated to preserving our past for future generations.
The Manitoba Historical Society (MHS), founded in 1879, is the oldest organization in Western Canada dedicated to preserving our past for future generations. The MHS is a public organization. Anyone can become an MHS member.
When you donate to the Manitoba Historical Society (MHS), you are helping to preserve our knowledge of Manitoba history and Canadian history. We passionately research, publish, and share history & ideas and engage actively in projects that help to keep Manitoba and Canadian history alive within our communities here in Manitoba and the Canadian Prairies.
As western Canada’s oldest historical organization, the Manitoba Historical Society has worked for over 145 years to preserve and promote the rich history of the West. We do this through our website, awards, public programs, and, of course, our journal, Prairie History.
The MHS, a non-profit charity, depends on your donations for our operations, along with the work of many unpaid volunteers. As a registered Canadian Charitable Organization, the MHS welcomes and encourages donations; they are a major means by which the costs of our activities are supported, including our magazine Prairie History and our comprehensive website that now comprises over 27,000 pages.
