The Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium (LWRC) Inc. was founded in 1998 to facilitate scientific research and education on Lake Winnipeg following evidence of water quality deterioration related to the 1997 Red River “Flood of the Century”.

The LWRC’s Science Program coordinates whole lake scientific research and monitoring on Lake Winnipeg to gain a better understanding of ecological processes and how they are changing over time, and to support lake and watershed management decision making.

Our Education Program provides unique opportunities for hands-on, experiential learning aboard our research vessels, M/V Namao and Fylgja, for students of all ages, from public school to university.
