The Kiwanis Music Festival of London Inc. has presented an annual music festival for over 60 years. Our Mission Statement is to celebrate the performing arts by providing an opportunity for artistic expression and personal growth in an encouraging and supportive environment. We typically have about 1800 youth participate annually in solo and group performances. London is officially a UNESCO “City of Music”, the first city in Canada to earn this designation. The designation was made in part because London has produced a significant number of internationally recognized, award-winning musicians.
Madeline Hall is the 2022 winner of the Rose Bowl, the top prize in the festival. Past winners of this award have gone on to have internationally acclaimed careers in music performance as soloists or part of an ensemble, music education as university faculty, composers, and art administrators.
Vanessa Yu was the 2022 winner of the inaugural Young-Ja Park Memorial Piano Competition generously supported by the Park family. We anticipate that the winners of this competition will following the pattern of the Rose Bowl winners and have internationally acclaimed careers in music.
In addition to providing a performance experience and a learning experience critique of the performance, entrants may be identified by the adjudicators for monetary awards. We return about $45,000 per year to the community through awards to individuals and schools.
Almost all the Rose Bowl winners have gone on to professional music careers as performers, teachers, conductors, composers, and arts administrators. Rose Bowl winners have completed post graduate courses at the Julliard, the Curtis Institute, and other major music schools, have had Carnegie Hall debuts, placed in major music competitions such as the Van Clyburn Piano Competition, and have received Juno Awards.
