About THE HANNAFORD STREET SILVER BAND
Since 1983, The Hannaford Street Silver Band has been striking up the brass band tradition and stirring up critical and popular acclaim.
This art form began deep in the coal fields of England’s Yorkshire Region. Mid 19th Century workers in mines and associated factories took up brass instruments as a form of celebration and recreation that spread with the industrial revolution.
To this rich and diverse history comes Canada’s Hannaford Street Silver Band, (HSSB)
In recognition of its accomplishments, in November of 2003, the HSSB was awarded its second Lieutenant Governor’s Award for the Arts by the Province of Ontario.
