Chanie Wenjack was an Anishinaabe boy born in Ogoki Post on Jan. 19, 1954. At the age of nine, hewas sent to the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential school in Kenora, ON. In 1966, at the age of 12, he ran away in attempts to reunite with his family 600 km away. Chanie’s body was found beside the railway tracks on Oct. 22, 1966, a week after he fled. He succumbed to starvation and exposure.

As part of our ongoing commitment and journey to Reconciliation, we, THE NWMO DGRS (Darn Good fundRaisers), will walk for Wenjack this year. Together, we want to raise awareness of the true history and impact of residential institutions.

Our team goal is to raise $6000.00. All funds will support DWF’s mission to create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

Please donate today! The deadline for donations is October 31, 2021. Donations of $10 or more can receive a charitable tax receipt.
