The Friends of Killbear Park is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to enriching the outdoor experiences of visitors and campers at Killbear Provincial Park, as well as responsible stewardship of the natural ecosystem in the park.
Revenue generated by the Friends of Killbear supports research projects, park improvement initiatives, special events, and the operating costs of the organization.
The Friends of Killbear help fund ongoing Massassauga Rattlesnake and Eastern Fox Snake research, aimed at protecting these two species-at-risk.
We have also made significant financial contributions to the construction and maintenance of the 6 km Recreational Trail, as well as the completion of the Activity Centre (picnic shelter) at the Day Use Beach.
Current Fundraising Project
The Friends of Killbear are currently raising funds for a new major project: the Twin Points Trail Barrier-Free Access and Viewing Platform. The plan provides easy access to the Twin Points with an accessible trail from the Day Use Area parking lot. It will replace the current board walk with a wider one, to allow wheel chairs and other mobility devices to pass each other. A wheel chair ramp to a viewing platform offers spectacular, unobstructed views of Twin Points, Kilcoursie Bay and Georgian Bay.
Our Mission
In the year 2000 a group of individuals, who shared a common interest in Killbear Provincial Park, came together with park staff to form the Friends of Killbear Park. These people wanted to take actions that would preserve the natural ecosystems of the Park, while at the same time contribute to the camper’s experiences during their stays in the Park.
