About THE CAPUCHIN FOUNDATION
We are the Capuchins of Central Canada religiously known as the Capuchin - Franciscan province of Mary, Mother of the Good Shepherd. Headquartered in Toronto, ON we have parishes and ministries in Kelowna BC, Winnipeg MB, and throughout central and southwestern Ontario. We accept donations (tax deductible) directly as well through our registered charity "The Capuchin Foundation" which is described in the Mission Statement.
======================================================================
The two Francis’, St. Francis of Assisi and Pope Francis both understand that love changes hearts and love must be revealed in action. That authentic conversion is brought about through the witness of Gospel love and not through harsh rebukes. The “Poor Church” must be embodied through humble service and hands-on ministering to our brothers and sisters (including creation) who are ill, both physically and spiritually.
We the (Franciscan) Capuchins of Central Canada (Province of Mary, Mother of the Good Shepherd) are appealing for your financial partnership which will enable us to continue to answer our Holy Father’s call to further “the witness of Gospel love” in the areas of Toronto and Blenheim, Ontario; Winnipeg, Manitoba and Kelowna B.C.
We do this not only through our presence in local Parish churches, but also through direct “hands-on-service”.
- St. Francis Table a restaurant which has served over 1 million meals to the poor in Toronto’s Parkdale district.
- Mount Alverno Retreat Centre in Caledon On which provides a variety of retreats to 10,000 individuals (youth and adults) annually as well as to other Christian groups.
- Friars who are directly involved with Immigrants and Refugees and related issues.
- Friars who are involved with the needs of Sister Mother Earth (Climate change, Eco Spirituality, and related concerns).
- Friars who minister directly with "consumer survivor’s" post-psychiatric people in need of housing and community building.
We pray daily that God will “send us men who aspire to be holy, just and caring to bring the love of Christ to our world”, and our prayer is being answered! Currently we have four men in our formation programs being educated and prepared for a Capuchin-Franciscan life of active and direct ministry to help fulfill St. Francis’ and Pope Francis’ vision of renewal for the Church. Together WE are the stewards of a great potential yet to be released into our world.
HOWEVER, we need you to partner with us in our mission, which is also Pope Francis’ mission of embodiment. The “Poor Church” must be embodied through humble service and hands-on ministry to our brothers and sisters (including creation) who are ill, both physically and spiritually". We need well educated and informed friars to fulfill this mission.
Thankyou for your financial support and prayers.
