Vision & Mission

A world where the performing arts reflect our society, challenge us, and inspire human transformation.

To create meaningful connections between artists and the community through inclusive and creative experiences.

The Canadian Heritage Arts Society (CHAS) delivers programming that aims to foster artistic appreciation and engagement in the performing arts for all ages.

The Society offers live performances, workshops and training, resources to support the development and/or production of new works, and opportunities for artists to connect with the community.

Our purposes are to provide:

Community outreach programs that preserve and promote arts and culture and increase public appreciation of the performing arts; and
Instruction and training in the performing arts, through ownership of the Canadian College of the Performing Arts (CCPA).

We are working to foster artistic appreciation and engagement in the performing arts for all ages.

Because the arts make a vital contribution to the economy

The arts and culture sector contributes $60 billion towards Canada’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Over 850,000 people work in cultural jobs in Canada. Arts and culture tourism has triple the economic impact of other types of tourism.

Because the arts improve the health and wellbeing of Canadians

The World Health Organization found the arts play a major role in preventing, managing, and treating illnesses, as well as promoting health and wellbeing. The overall health of Canadians is strongly linked to their participation in arts, culture, and heritage activities, as is improved mental health (Hills Strategies’ analysis, 2021).

Because the arts strengthen society

The European Commission's research found that arts and culture participation boosts civic engagement, democracy, and social cohesion. Nanos Research (2024) found 63% of people who participate in arts and culture feel a stronger sense of belonging in Canada.
