Started in 1965 as the Barbara Heck Foundation, The Frontenac Arch Biosphere Foundation was created to support education and research for conservation and sustainable community development in the Frontenac Arch Biosphere.

Through cooperation with the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Network, we work to educate the public and advance research in areas related to natural and cultural heritage, and sustainable social and environmental development.

Bioreserve & HabitatWe are fostering conservation and sustainability in a 2700km area spanning from Gananoque to Brockville, and Sydenham to Westport and Rideau Lakes.

Rare Granite HabitatSupporting a remarkable expanse of exposed granite rock that stretches approximately 100 kilometres from the Canadian Shield boreal forest to the forests of the Adirondack and Appalachian Mountains.

Species At RiskMany endangered and species at risk make the Frontenac Arch Biosphere their home or use it as part of their migratory path.

In effort to connect and protect these places and species, the Frontenac Arch Biosphere is furthering conservation efforts and helping local businesses become more environmentally sustainable.

5 Unique Forest RegionsThese are the Great Lakes – St. Lawrence forest, the Boreal, the Appalachian, the Atlantic Coastal Forest and the Carolinian Forest. There are also species of the tall-grass prairie to be found.

2 Major Migratory pathsWhere land and water connect to create 2 important migratory paths and one of the richest forest breeding bird communities in Canada
