About Campaign

Myra: Last year, in the last month of my mom’s life, she and I were proud to be a part of a team of people raising money for the Abbey Retreat Centre. My mom died last July. It’s been a year of change and transition. One way to continue living and thriving is to give back. My goal for the Haliburton Highlands Challenge is to continue what Marcia and I started last year – to move every day (walking, biking or swimming), to explore new places and to seek and share beauty wherever I am.

Jim: I am walking with a cane these days so I won’t be counting kilometers for this challenge. Instead I will be channeling Leo Lionni’s Frederick the Mouse who collected stories and images throughout the summer to lighten the dark days of winter. Ninety images over the 90 days of the challenge – that’s my contribution for our trek to the North Pole.

Jim and Myra:  For the Haliburton Highlands Challenge 2024, each person and team sets their own goal. Our team has set an ambitious goal of counting steps and walking from Haliburton to the North Pole!  The kilometers Myra moves will contribute to our bigger team’s overall travel goal, Jim’s artistic endeavours will fuel us on. Our greatest goal is to raise funds for the good work that Brooksong Retreat and Cancer Support Centre does so they can continue what they do and do more of it.
