Our Mission

The mission of SYRCA - Saskatchewan Young Readers' Choice - The Willow Awards Inc. is to promote reading by granting a "Willow Award" to the Canadian and/or Saskatchewan book(s) voted by students to be the best of those nominated in designated categories for a specific year.

About SYRCA-SASKATCHEWAN YOUNG READERS' CHOICE-THE WILLOW AWARDS I

An annual list of Canadian and Saskatchewan books is prepared by SYRCA selection committees. Ten books are chosen in each of the categories: Shining Willow for Kindergarten to Grade 3, Diamond Willow for Grades 4 to 6, and Snow Willow for Grades 7 to 9. Posters and Bookmarks featuring the nominated books are prepared and distributed to schools and libraries throughout the province. Students in Saskatchewan read the required number of books, and vote for their favourites. The Willow Awards Website provides information, author links, classroom activities, announcements and contests, voting links, as well as a new commenting feature.
