About our Programs
S.H.I.F.T. operates 3 regular programs, serving those that are experiencing homelessness and/or food insecurity.
Community Dinner Program
Open to anyone in the community looking for a warm meal and some friendship. Meals prepared by local churches and volunteers are served by a volunteer serving team. Resources and supports are available upon request. Participants may choose to receive ‘take-away’ meals, if choosing not to enter the space.
Outreach Program
With a specific focus on prevention of homelessness – serving those living with low-income throughout South Simcoe, the goal of the Outreach Program is to connect individuals, couples and families to urgently needed supplies, services, and supports as well as provide emergency assistance to those at-risk of or experiencing homelessness and/or food insecurity (housed or otherwise).
Emergency Overnight Shelter (EOS) Program
Offers overnight shelter to individuals and couples experiencing homelessness during the winter months. As a short-term, housing-focused shelter, the program is intended to bridge the gap between entering into homelessness and moving into safe and sustainable housing. Staff and volunteers work collaboratively to serve adults and youth (16+), of all genders including transgender people, couples and others who cannot access other local services under harm reduction principles. The EOS program is available for up to 8 guests per night, 7 days a week. Our focus is on provision of shelter while providing resources for community-building. Our aim is to support guests in feeling that they belong to and are engaged in the community.
