The Sunshine Coast is facing critical housing challenges. There is a lack of housing that is affordable or suitable for many community members, particularly for single-parent families, single working adults, low-income seniors, people living with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations.

The lack of affordable housing for working adults is having a devastating impact on the social and economic health of the Sunshine Coast. Essential service organizations, including schools, police, and health-care organizations are short-staffed and struggling to keep up with demand. Many local businesses cannot retain or keep qualified staff and have reduced their hours or closed.
