The World University Service of Canada’s (WUSC’s) Student Refugee Program (SRP) has empowered over 1,800 young refugees from 39 countries to continue their education in safe and supportive environments in Canada.
The SRP’s unique youth-to-youth sponsorship model empowers young Canadian students to actively support refugee students through campus-based Local Committees that raise funds and awareness for the program on their campus and in their community. SAMRU leads a Local Committee that provides funding for SRP students and also plays a critical role in offering social and academic support.
Funding: SAMRU partners with MRU to sponsor student refugees to study here. MRU provides in-kind provisions for up to a maximum of 8 courses, including fees, and for 8 months of residence (4 months are sponsored by SAMRU). SAMRU also covers expenses for the student’s food, personal expenses, transportation, clothing, emergency funds, and books and school supplies. With your generous support, we hope to continue to provide up to $11,500 in annual expenses for the student refugee program.
