S.T.A.N.D. Against Sexual Assault is a community of like-minded people and professionals with a mission to provide peer support to survivors of sexual assault, prevent sexual violence through education and promote healing through a variety of holistic healing practices. S.T.A.N.D. ASA envisions a world free from victim shaming in which survivors can raise their voices and unite. A world where there is no stigma attached to sexual assault.
S.T.A.N.D. Against Sexual Assault aims to change attitudes and minds in support of a safer, fairer, and more just society. Our three Overarching Goals are:
1. Preventing sexual assault through education and community awareness. We provide educational workshops and awareness training on conditions and issues that contribute to and impact sexual violence. We strive for individual attitude and behavior change as we move toward communities free of all forms of violence. Educational workshops are led by Survivors who relate their own experiences in an safe and impactful way. Our Ending Silence workshop has been incredibly recevied by junior high students, high school students and teachers and has been featured on CTV News.
2. Providing peer support to survivors of sexual assault. We are run by survivors for survivors. Specially trained Peer Support Mentors start by listening and validating the experience of survivors. Anonymity and supportive relationships are the foundation of the peer work we do. No guilt, no blame and no shame. Just an accepting and helpful support system to aid in the healing journey. We promote a strength based approach to awareness, self-knowledge and healing in our peer mentoring, programs and services. We help nourish the personal journey from ‘victim’ to ‘survivor’.
3. Promoting physical, mental and emotional well-being through holistic healing practices. The path to wellness is not one-size-fits-all. The journey is unique and different for each individual. S.T.A.N.D. ASA organizes a variety of workshops aimed at a holistic well balanced approach to sustainable wellness. Our programs include yoga, art journeying and self defense.
