Overview

American soprano Emma Petersen and musician David Vazquez warmly invite you to a charity concert on November 25, 2023, from 12 PM to 2 PM at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Edmonton. In collaboration with Sombrilla, an Edmonton-based international development nonprofit, this musical initiative aims to raise funds for a crucial project in El Salvador.  The project facilitates scholarships for young adults from rural communities, enabling them to pursue post-secondary education. Upon completing their education, these young adults contribute back to their communities, sharing their skills and knowledge with local youth and nurturing a cycle of empowerment and education.
The concert’s rich musical repertoire will be a blend of classical and seasonal music, with selections from Handel’s Messiah, Debussy, Poulenc, and cherished Christmas staples. While admission is free, we encourage attendees to reserve a ticket and consider making a generous donation to support this life-changing cause for young adults in rural El Salvador.
Your presence and generosity extend beyond an afternoon of captivating music. We eagerly anticipate celebrating this cause with you as we usher in a wave of change that transcends borders.

Admission is free but we invite you to support Sombrilla with a donation. You can donate here through Canada Helps, or at the door. We can accept cash, cheques, and cards.

About This Charity

In El Salvador, many young people dream of continuing their education after high school, but often, this remains a distant dream due to financial constraints. Sombrilla, hand in hand with a local NGO,CEBES PERQUIN, aims to change this by offering scholarships to these young adults from rural areas, opening doors to further education. This scholarship allows students to chase their dreams, to grow, and give back to their communities. Once they complete their education, they return to their hometowns, sharing what they've learned. They form small groups with local youth, meeting up to talk about the challenges they face today and inspiring the next generation to dream big too. Your contribution could mean a world of difference to these young lives, fueling a cycle of learning, growing, and giving back. Your support not only helps an individual but uplifts entire communities. Through your generosity, the cycle of positive change continues, one educated young adult at a time.
