Small World is Getting Bigger and Better. Help Us Grow!
Our vision is to provide early childhood education programs in a home-like, supportive and inspiring child-focused centre in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. As of September 2015, we have begun our “Under One Roof” Expansion Project. Construction is taking place now. By 2016, we will accomplish our vision by consolidating all of our programs, children and staff, in one location, through an addition to our accessible child care center on 352 York Street. We intend to add a wheelchair accessible extension of 49’ x 39’ which will include two classrooms, an accessible washroom, an office, a foyer and a hallway for cubbies.
We need your assistance. At this time we are short of our goals for construction capital and we would invite you to become a part of Small World's family by donating. Every dollar you contribute helps keep fees manageable to the parents and grandparents in our community and enables us to spend these valuable funds on providing top-notch programs. Your donation also directly contributes to Bridgewater’s prosperity by helping us create a facility that will meet the needs of our growing community. Please keep in mind that as a registered charity, we will issue a tax receipt for any donations received.
Award-winning Small World Learning Centre is the only childcare organization in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, housed in its own facility designed especially for children, an attractive and modern building constructed in 2007. We are a just a short walk through the woods away from the new Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre, which houses a skating arena, the public library, and swimming pools.
Our indoor and outdoor spaces, designed to feel both homey and like a natural extension of our woodland environment, are arranged to enhance the wonder and magic of childhood in every way possible. Our children, their families, and visiting childcare experts all comment on the beauty of our centre, particularly when it comes to our outdoor play area.
We are also pleased to be the only childcare organization in Lunenburg County that offers Reggio Emilia inspired childcare programs. Our first aim is to provide a comfortable, supportive, and stimulating atmosphere for the children in our care. Our well-trained staff members base their teaching on close observation of the children at play — the true work of childhood. We observe the children’s interests and then offer them opportunities to explore them more fully. In this way, the children and the teachers develop our curriculum together. We emphasize discovery in the natural environment and with natural materials as much as possible.
