The SPAO Photographic Arts Centre is proud to announce the creation of the annual People’s Choice Award in Celebration of Mebs Rehemtulla. 

Commencing in 2025, the award will be presented at our annual APEX Exhibition Reception. This special award will honor the life and legacy of Mebs Rehemtulla, a beloved member of the SPAO community.

About Mebs Rehemtulla:

Mebs was a passionate part-time student at SPAO, a devoted father, and a respected leader in the tech industry. Known for his humor, intelligence, and love of people, Mebs also had a deep appreciation for the arts, especially photography. Through this award, we not only remember his contributions to our community but also celebrate the spirit of creativity and camaraderie that he embodied.

About the Award:

APEX is SPAO’s annual juried exhibition and awards, created to celebrate the work of our diverse part-time studies community.

The exhibition and awards provide the opportunity for emerging and seasoned photographers to:

• Have their work juried by visual arts community leaders.
• Showcase their work in a professional gallery setting
• Be eligible for 1 of 9 award packages

This People’s Choice Award in Celebration of Mebs Rehemtulla is the only APEX award determined by a jury of his peers, guests to the event, and members of the SPAO community. The award, valued at a minimum of $600, will be presented publicly at the official APEX reception.
