The SPAO Photographic Arts Centre discovers, nurtures and amplifies the diverse voices of those that may not otherwise become the next generation of boundary pushing photo-based artists. Through SPAO, our alumni, students, staff, and artist community are able to share their unique perspective, inspire others, and enhance human connection through an unspoken language. Education on photography and its cultural impact is critical in order to acquire visual literacy and gain an understanding of human connection as we navigate through the digital age. 

SPAO is a vibrant hub where people gather, connect, and foster a sense of belonging. We touch the lives of individuals, families, and organizations, creating positive change and leaving a lasting impact on the wider community as a whole.

After revolutionizing photographic arts education as well as constructing one of Canada’s foremost photographic arts centres, SPAO’s evolution will continue through community support and critical partnerships.
