about

Our Mission

SCAT Street Cat Rescue Program Inc. is a registered charitable organization whose focus is promoting quality of care and quality of life for street cats through fostering, adoption, and TNRM (Trap, Neuter, Return, Manage) programs. Our harsh weather and no-roaming bylaws, along with all the usual risks to outdoor cats, make survival difficult. We prioritize the most vulnerable, including pregnant cats, kittens, and those with injuries or medical problems requiring urgent vet care.

Over the years we have grown to the point where we bring over 700 cats into our program every year. This can only happen with a large committed volunteer base with a wide range of skills and interests. Our people - donors, volunteers, fosters, partner clinics and staff - are how we continue to make an impact on the lives of street cats and kittens. They are key to our success and the core of our organization. We value them beyond measure.

SCAT’s funding comes from donations, fundraising activities and corporate grants; we do not receive any government or municipal funding. We rely on the generosity of those who share our goal of reducing street cat populations by caring for stray cats and kittens.

Our Core Values

Ethical – We provide compassionate and humane treatment of street cats in our care, based on their individual needs, with a goal of enhancing and preserving life.

Integrity – We act responsibly and communicate openly and transparently to our members and stakeholders.

Dedication – We support and enhance the wellbeing of cats that come into our care, by fostering, seeking adoptive homes, and ensuring care for their lifetime. This includes our special care programs, such as neonatal, medical, and hospice.

Education – We work to increase awareness and share knowledge about the care and needs of cats and promote responsible cat ownership.

Collaboration – We work with other agencies and partners in the province to meet the needs of street cats within our communities and address the overpopulation problem.

About SCAT STREET CAT RESCUE PROGRAM INC.

Cats are prolific breeders averaging two litters a year and 5 kittens per litter. A mass spay/neutering program is the most efficient and cost-effective way of combating this rate of population growth.

SCAT uses TNFA (Trap-Neuter-Foster-Adopt), especially for feral (wild) kittens who are brought into foster homes for socialization and adoption. Cats found to be social are advertised in case they have been separated from their families.

SCAT also promotes the use of TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) when it is in the best interests of the feral (wild) cat to return him/her to their natural environment and where there is proper care provided - shelter, food, water and a caregiver to monitor health and well being. This is primarily around industrial/business areas where they are valued for their rodent control.

What people are saying

The staff and volunteers go above and beyond for the cats in their care. We had the honour of having Mighty Missy in our family for a short but beautiful time. Thank you SCAT, Shae and Audrey for everything.
