Our Mission
The Saskatoon Zoo Society is a non-profit charity that fosters respect for nature through environmental education programs.
We were founded in 1976 by a group of volunteers who sought to enhance the quality of the zoo's animal care and facilities and provide educational programming.
What We Do
Today, the Saskatoon Zoo Society runs environmental education programs for classrooms, public interpretation and outreach, day and summer camps, and other public programming. Our programs stimulate interest in animals, wildlife, and environmental conservation.
In 2023, we delivered over 500 programs, reaching over 27,000 people and receiving 100% positive feedback.
Our programming has earned industry recognition, including CAZA's Eleanore Oakes Award for innovative program design (2021, Small Facility) and an RCE Saskatchewan annual Education for Sustainable Development Award for our Species at Risk programming in 2022.
Why Support the Society?
As a separate entity from the Zoo itself, the Saskatoon Zoo Society relies on the generosity of its members, individuals, corporations, foundations, and all three levels of government to provide its numerous environmental education programs, support the quality of care for its animals, and enhance the experience for visitors to the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo.
Our Funds
When supporting the Saskatoon Zoo Society, you have the choice to direct your donation to:
General Fund—Donations to our general fund allow us to respond to the organization's greatest needs. These may include equipment or supply purchases, training and development for our staff or volunteers, enrichment or socialization for our animal ambassadors, marketing or fundraising expenses, or supporting operational and administrative costs to create, facilitate, and continuously improve our environmental education programming.
Nick Laursen Memorial Fund - A Memorial Fund has been set up by Nick Laursen’s parents and the Saskatoon Zoo Society to honor his memory and support something Nick held dear – teaching people about the wildlife at the Zoo. His dedication and enthusiasm for all he did for the Saskatoon Zoo Society will be genuinely missed. This fund allows the Saskatoon Zoo Society to deliver environmental education programs to classrooms and other groups that cannot afford the program's cost.
