MISSION
The Salt Spring Community Health Society (SSCHS) is a non-profit organization whose aim is to promote community health by seeking to expand local access to primary health care on Salt Spring Island and to support an inter-professional community health centre.
VISION
A Community Health Centre where all members of our community receive integrated and individualized care from an interdisciplinary team of professionals where and when they need it.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Salt Spring Community Health Society:
Will engage the community on an ongoing basis to ensure the centre’s services and programs are grounded in the actual needs and priorities of the people being served.
Will strive to ensure that every resident of Salt Spring Island has access to a primary health care provider.
Will support a community health centre with sufficient additional capacity to provide walk-in, non-emergency urgent care.
Commits to supporting primary health care providers in serving the specific needs of vulnerable people with complex health and/or socio-economic challenges.
Affirms that all Canadians have an inherent right to inclusive health care regardless of race, country of origin, religious belief, sexual or gender identity, or ability to pay.
Will share our efforts and activities with the community through ongoing communication.
Will work collaboratively with all Salt Spring Island health care agencies and providers, the BC Ministry of Health, Island Health, and other community organizations in achieving its mission.
Will remain attuned to the evolution of community health care, at all times.
