“BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH SOCIAL JUSTICE FOR 107 YEARS"

Maison Saint Columba House

about

Our Mission

To foster an inclusive community for all through education, compassion and by countering isolation and oppression in Point St. Charles and beyond.

About Maison Saint Columba House

For over 107 years, Maison Saint Columba House has been advocating for social justice through empowerment, education, and social action in partnership with the community of Point St. Charles. We build community by providing a safe space, meals, resources, education, and programs to every vulnerable member of this community.

With more than 25 programs operating from our head office, an average of 170 people enter our building to participate in and benefit from one or another of these programs every day.

Community Meals: Hot, nutritious meals are prepared five days a week and offered to all who request them in our communal dining room. 18,411 nutritious meals were prepared in our kitchen in 2023 alone!

Meals-on-Wheels: We deliver five complete nutritious meals to isolated and/or low-income seniors who face mobility challenges and/or cognitive difficulties twice per week! 8,256 meals were delivered to seniors last year.

After School Program: We assist children and youth with their homework daily and offer one-on-one tutoring, and provide them with healthy snacks, recreational activities, encouragement, and support. This program is offered free of charge to all participants. We provided the equivalent of 15,750 hours of tutoring and activities, and donated 6,270 snacks to children aged 5 to 12.

Youth Programs: We run a Leadership, Exploration and Development Training program (LEAD) and a Monitor-in-Training program that focuses on leadership training, job preparation, self-development, community activism, conflict resolution, program planning and more for youth aged 13 to 18 years old.

Day Camp: We offer an affordable recreational summer camp running for 6 weeks every year to vulnerable youth and children from low-income families. 76 children are enrolled in our summer day camp this year.

Alternate Preschool: A head-start preschool program for children tasked with promoting literacy and French language skills whose aim is to prepare children and their parents for elementary school.

Hand-In-Hand: We offered 1,100 hours of specialized care to Anglophone adults living with physical, mental and/or intellectual disabilities in 2023. We are the only organization offering this day program in English on the island of Montreal.

Seniors Connection: An Anglophone seniors’ group that meets weekly to discuss current events, attend workshops, watch films, and go on outings.

Café Pronto: Our coffee shop serves fresh-baked goods, pastries, and fair-trade coffee. Every morning a group meets to discuss politics, spirituality (in a multi faith, inter-cultural and secular context), practice French language skills, attend the walking group and/or discuss current events.

Bill’s Community Bike Shop: An affordable, community bike shop that refurbishes bikes, offers repair services and a D.I.Y. bike repair workshop ensuring community members who are unable to afford public transit have access to transportation.

Women’s group: A multi-generational Women’s group that meets monthly. Topics are explored and a communal meal is shared.
