Sage Theatre produces bold, intimate, thoughtful professional theatre in an intimate environment. We are passionate about providing local theatre professionals and talented emerging artists with opportunities to tell stories that speak to the human condition. We are also passionate about presenting emerging artists through the IGNITE! which has it's own mission statement below.

IGNITE! Festival Mission Statement:

IGNITE! gives emerging artists of all disciplines the opportunity to develop as professionals, build community, and showcase their abilities through a mentored process of creating new artistic works, culminating in an annual multidisciplinary arts festival.

Since 1998, Sage Theatre has continued to move and provoke Calgary audiences with our distinct style of intimate professional theatre. In the intimacy of the historic Joyce Doolittle theatre, we envelop our audience, bringing them closer, emotionally and physically, to the unique characters and powerful honesty of the stories we tell.

For twenty years, Sage Theatre has established itself as one of Calgary’s most intimate theatre companies. On a minimal budget, and while fulfilling our commitment to local professional and emerging artists, we have garnered critical acclaim, audience growth, 47 Betty Mitchell Award nominations and a nomination for Artistic Innovation at the Mayor’s Awards for Business in the Arts.

One of our key values has always been to provide paid opportunities to local artists, helping to make it viable for talented artists to pursue creative careers while remaining in Calgary.

As an Alberta-based theatre company, we believe that to build a strong theatre community we must provide the necessary tools, training and platforms for new artists so that careers in the arts can be a viable option.
