The Russeltown Church was built in 1826 and was and continues to be a central to the community. Families from St-Chrysostome, Havelock, Hemmingford, Franklin, Hinchinbrook and Ormstown (to name a few) - have met here to both celebrate life's joys and to support one another during times of needs. As people moved away, the members of the Church dwindled. For the last 50 years, the maintenance of the property has been entirely done through volunteers and donations from near and afar. With over 300 people buried in the cemetery, there are members of many of the founding families in the area - Allen, Anderson, Barr, Baskin, Black, Boyd, Brand, Brown, Cowan, Douglas, Duncan, Edwards, Gilmore, Gordon, McDiarmid, McDowell, McFee, Moore, Orr, Perham, Pettis, Porcheron, Rennie, Robb, Roberts, Robinson, Sayer, Stevenson, Stewart, Walsh, Watt, Wilson Wood and Young to name a few. The cemetery includes the graves and memorials to several veterans who served from the area. Three elected members of parliament are also buried here. Through the support and generousity of descents and friends of Russeltown, this fund's donations are entirely put towards the upkeep of the church and cemetery. An annual service held the last Sunday in July at 2:30 pm is held to celebrate and remember these early settlers. The community recently suffered the sudden loss of one of its long-time serving Directors, Phil Wood. It is with humble appreciation we thank those who are chosing to make a donation in his honor and memory.
