About Reena

Reena is a non-profit organization that promotes dignity, individuality, independence, personal growth and community inclusion for people with diverse abilities within a framework of Jewish culture and values.

The Reena Foundation was established in 1973 by parents of children with developmental disabilities as a practical alternative to institutions. Since that time Reena has grown to provide support for 1,000 individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Reena offers a variety of services including: residential support, respite programs, counselling, therapy and advocacy. These services are offered in 32 Group Homes, 6 long term care partnerships and our intentional living residences, including the Sandy Keshen Reena Residence (84 rooms), the Lou Fruitman Reena Residence (138 rooms), and the Frankfort Family Reena Residence, which will have an additional 168 rooms when completed.

Our Mission

To raise funds to invest in a better quality of life for people with Autism and other developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and other diverse health needs.

Our Areas of Impact:

1. Reena’s Housing Projects:

At the heart of Reena Foundation's mission is the belief that everyone deserves a place they can truly call home—a cornerstone of independence. In Ontario, the challenge of finding suitable housing for individuals with developmental disabilities affects over 12,000 people and their families. Recognizing this pressing need, Reena has emerged as a beacon of hope, pioneering housing models that blend independence, affordability, and accessibility with round-the-clock support. With 32 group homes, six long-term care partnerships, and 135 supported independent living beds—including the Sandy Keshen and Lou Fruitman Reena Residences, and the upcoming Frankfort Family Reena Residence—Reena provides tailored care that honors the unique needs and abilities of each resident. From supervised independent living to 24-hour assistance, Reena’s dedicated team of trained professionals empowers individuals to lead lives filled with dignity and respect, transforming the dream of a fulfilling home into a beautiful reality.

2. Employment Support & Training:

Reena Foundation’s Supported Employment Programs are transformative pathways for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, including Autism, to secure meaningful and sustainable jobs in the competitive job market. With a holistic, individualized approach, Reena's dedicated job coaches empower each job seeker to become an independent, self-sufficient, and confident employee. Beyond supporting individuals, Reena actively partners with employers to enhance diversity recruitment, fostering inclusive workplaces that celebrate the unique contributions of every team member. Together, these efforts not only change lives but also enrich communities, creating a more equitable and vibrant workforce for all.

3. Social Outreach Programs:

Reena’s programs are designed to improve social skills and self esteem, allowing each person to reach their full potential. Reena offers multiple Day Program options in Toronto and York Region. Activities incorporate augmented communication styles and are structured so that participants can learn through hands on experiences and social interactions. A variety of large and small group programs offer a range of support levels and environments to meet the specific abilities, interests and strengths of each individual.
