Library Giving Day

Library Giving Day is a one-day fundraising event with the goal of encouraging people who depend on and enjoy public libraries to donate to their home library. This support goes towards the incredible programs, services, and materials provided by libraries everywhere! Library Giving Day was originally started by the Seattle Public Library Foundation, but has since become popular across North America - including in Red Deer!

This year, Library Giving Day is on April 6, 2022, and Red Deer Public Library has a goal to raise $5,000 towards new initiatives, including the grand reopening of the Toy Lending Library at the Downtown Branch. This collection has been closed since the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic two years ago, and since then is in need of new toys, games, and puzzles for babies, young children, and older kids. These toys support families in our community by providing a way for children to learn and thrive, but the cost of new toys is often prohibitive for many families. With a free Red Deer Public Library card, families can have access to the entire Toy Lending Library and thousands of other books and other items available to loan at RDPL. Supporting the library is a gift that keeps on giving, so please consider donating to this important community resource!
