Our Mission

RAINBOW OF HOPE FOR CHILDREN SOCIETY supports equitable and ecologically sound human development in Canada and abroad to enable people to identify and implement solutions to their pressing needs, and we strengthen the voluntary sector by assisting through networking, education, and development projects to help people determine their own future.

WHO?

Rainbow of Hope for Children is a fully volunteer non-government organization (NGO) based in Alberta, Canada. Founded in 1975, it is committed to involvement of grassroots people in our global community to create a more just world for their families and society.

WHY?

We believe in the value of caring for the earth and its people and that the earth’s resources are meant for all to share and respect. We believe that dignity and human rights have no boundaries and as members of our global family, all have responsibility to work toward this vision. We value partners of various secular and religious affiliations, and we have abundant hope that together we can influence change toward a more compassionate, caring world.

HOW?

Our NGO channels funds designated by donors to development projects as determined by grassroots partners to alleviate suffering and to change the conditions causing the suffering. With the support of the DFAITD (Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development) and the Wild Rose Foundation to CIPD (Alberta Community Initiatives International Development program)  we assist international partners with education, life skills, political awareness, health and wellness, human capacitation, agriculture, income generation, and marketing techniques. At home, we bring awareness to issues of poverty to school, community and church groups through experienced speakers and our publication, NEXUS - linking partners in development.

WHERE?

The main areas of support have been in Brazil’s poorest northeastern states - Alagoas, Pernambuco, and Bahia, as well as Peru, Central America, Philippines, Africa, India, and other areas designated by donors and approved by the board.

HOW CAN I HELP?

Everyday you hear of poverty and social injustice at home and abroad. People sometimes find it easier to ignore this reality, not from a cold heart but believing they can be of little or no significance. But our work has shown that it is ordinary people who can and do make an extraordinary difference. No one person or group can solve all the problems, but we can support the suffering and stand with them in solidarity, helping them make the necessary changes to improve their lives. What may seem very little like a loonie or toonie campaign in a school or parish, a fast or walk to raise funds, a donation, or giving your time and service, together is a whole lot. Since most poverty and injustices are human-made, they can be unmade. Elimination of poverty and injustice can and will be achieved with the good will and involvement of large numbers of people. Every support, big or small, is a "Rainbow of Hope". You can choose to be part of the solution.
