Our Mission
Qqs Projects Society supports Heiltsuk youth, culture, community, and environment as the core components of a strong and vibrant future for our Nation and our territory.
We believe that Heiltsuk language, culture, and ceremony are the pathway to our individual and collective wellbeing, and that through deeper connection to ourselves, one another, and the land we can embrace a decolonial future that aligns with the dreams of our ancestors.
About Qqs (Eyes) Projects Society
We run a variety of projects and programs with the common denominator of being community-led! We are authentically rooted in 1) a desire to serve our community, and 2) a belief that our community members are the best possible experts on what our people need to thrive.
With our community’s support and direction, we work in:
Land-Based Healing *The Koeye River Youth Camp, in continuous operation since 1999, brings Heiltsuk youth out on the land to learn about culture, ancestral foods and medicines, and how their wellbeing is connected to the place they come from *The Koeye Lodge offers a safe, comfortable, multigenerational space for families and community programs to gather on the land
Food Systems Resiliency *The La̓iás Community Garden grows food for community distribution *Our Granny Gardens Program supports 150+ local households to grow food at home *The Granny’s Kitchen Hamper Program distributes fresh groceries to 300+ local households *The Bákvḷá Harvester Program hires local fishers to gather ancestral foods for community distribution
Community Programs *The Ed Martin Memorial Library is the first all-ages, public community library in Bella Bella, in operation since 2007 *The Qqs Sawmill is a project to create a reliable, affordable source of local lumber to meet community needs *The Kíx̌kv Woodshop Project is a valued-added woodshop teaching skills in woodworking, furniture making, and carving to local young people *Bella Bella RAIN (Rez Animals in Need) helps to connect local pet owners with animal welfare supports
NEW: Help Qqs (Eyes) Projects Society, an Indigenous charity, build a permanent home for our team and community programs in Heiltsuk homelands! We have the land, but we need your help to raise the building! Donate to "Finding Our Home" today.
