Overview
Set against a backdrop of peak spring migration and the natural beauty of Prince Edward Point, this three-day festival, Friday, May 9th - Sunday, May 11th, offers a unique opportunity for bird and nature lovers of all ages and levels of expertise to gain knowledge, experience nature connection and find inspiration - all within a welcoming community setting. With a nod to our theme, “Birding & Nature: A World of Wonder for Every Body”, we are working hard to make the festival inclusive, accessible, as well as appealing to all nature lovers, birders or not. And because this year marks PEPtBO’s 30th anniversary, we have developed our most exciting program to-date.
In addition to our popular guided bird walks, there will be a wide variety of Tent Talks. Participants are invited to observe bird-banding demonstrations and to engage in interactive activities designed especially for kids. On Sunday, we’ll host a special Mother’s Day walk (suitable for families).
We are excited to announce a dedicated youth day at this year's Festival. With support from Wellington Rotary, we are busing a group of local students to Prince Edward Point to experience nature connection and learn about the role of bird research in bird and habitat conservation.
PEPtBO’s selection of bird-friendly coffee, clothing, and other merchandise will be available for purchase during the festival. Kaleidoscope Catering will be on site May 9-11.
Big thanks to our sponsors Vortex Canada, Trailhead, Picton Rotary, Merrill House, Asio Adventures, Wellington Rotary, Sugarbush Vineyards and Moore Mortgage Services!
Details
The guided walks and workshops are ticketed so you need to register, but the demonstrations, Tent Talks, and other events are free for all. (Donations welcome!) Every effort will be made to accommodate those with limited mobility or other special needs. Let us know if we can help, and look for the walks that are designated accessible or kid friendly.
Lighthouse walks depart from the Bird Observatory, Traverse Woods walks, meet at the Traverse Woods trailhead. We encourage carpooling as parking near the Bird Observatory is limited.
Don't forget to dress for the weather. Mid-May can be variable and it tends to be cooler at The Point. Events are 'rain or shine', so you may need rain gear if the day seems potentially wet. (We hope not!).
We will have some chairs and tables, but you may want to bring your own comfy one if you are attending the demonstrations, Tent Talks, or planning a picnic lunch from Kaleidoscope. In the interest of environmental consideration, we are asking people to observe 'pack in/pack out' with regard to any garbage. Please also be aware that the event takes place in the Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area, and visitors are subject to NWA regulations.
In order for us to plan effectively for our events, no refunds are available, however, tickets are transferable.
