5 Days

The Dalhousie Commerce Society (DCS) is excited to take part in 5 Days, a national campaign, to promote a greater awareness of youth homelessness in Halifax across the Dalhousie community and beyond. For the 6^th year in a row, Sleepers (students and guests) will give up the comforts home and all necessities for five days, and sleep outside the Rowe School of Business – 6100 University Avenue, braving the winter weather to raise money and awareness for Phoenix Youth Programs. DCS encourages all Dal students, student societies and faculty to get involved by joining our online fundraising campaign (create a team or join as an individual), or giving a financial gift (sponsor a youth for 1 Day, 5 Days, 7 Days or even a Month). 

Providing youth with access to supportive adults and opportunities can change everything. It can help break the cycle of poverty and secure a bright future for that youth. You can make that happen.

On average 1,000 youth reach out to Phoenix for help each year. For each youth to access the support they need for one year requires $4,600.

This translates into $380 per month, $88 per week (7 Days), $63 per week (5 Days) or $12.60 per day.

Every donation of a day, week, and month will connect youth to housing, food, supportive guidance, advocacy, financial literacy, education and employment support, clinical therapy, and/or life-skill development.
