Our Mission
Established in 1994, the Pacific Foundation for Understanding Nature Society (Pac FUNS) endeavours to facilitate partnerships and direct fundraising initiatives that:
• Assists with programme development that promotes experiential place-conscious and nature-based environmental learning, leadership and cultural programmes
• Supports local and international involvement in experiential place-conscious and nature-based environmental learning, leadership and cultural programmes
• Contributes to capital facility projects that promote experiential place-conscious and nature-based environmental learning, leadership and cultural programmes
By completing projects related to the main purposes of the society, Pac FUNS intends to enhance the capacity for experiential place and nature-based environmental and cultural learning programming throughout British Columbia, the Pacific Northwest and Canada
About PACIFIC FOUNDATION FOR UNDERSTANDING NATURE SOCIETY (Pac FUNS)
Pac FUNS undertakes a number of projects that address it's mission, these include:
Eagle Trust: An “in-perpetuity” endowment and trust fund to support long term development of existing, as well as, new experiential place and nature-based environmental learning. Eagle Trust funding provides on-going support for projects such as; strategic plans, development of leadership programmes, learning programmes and curriculum learning resources.
Environmental Leadership & Learning Initiative: Provides direct support to educators, students and learners attending leading pedagogically based programmes, conferences and centres recognized for excellence in experiential place-conscious and nature-based environmental learning.
Environmental Learning Legacy Project: To expand the capacity and impact of program facilities for experiential place and nature-based environmental leadership and learning. The Environmental Learning Legacy was establihed to assist locations such as the Cheakamus Centre. The Cheakamus Centre is one of Canada's pre-emminent centres of excellence utilizing its naturally diverse campus and unique facilities to provide immersive and contextually integrated programming. These experiences facilitate learning in natural, cultural and sustainable systems.
