The Orillia & District Arts Council

about

The Mission of ODAC is to empower, advocate for, and celebrate all art forms in our community and area.

Our Vision is a strong united creative community, working together to enhance culture in our area.

Our values are inclusiveness, life-long learning, respect, diversity, community and freedom of expression.

Our History

  • 1999 A local group of enthusiastic supporters of the arts started the year-long process of establishing the organization
  • 2000 The Orillia & District Arts Council (ODAC) was officially formed
  • 2005 ODAC was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization
  • 2006 The organization was granted charitable status
  • 2006 The Board of Directors embarked on a comprehensive strategic planning process
  • 2008 The organization opened its doors at 37 Mississaga Street W
  • 2012 ODAC moved to the 2nd floor of the Orillia City Centre building at 50 Andrew Street South
  • 2019 The Orillia Regional Arts & Heritage Awards were established as a joint partnership between the Orillia & District Arts Council, Orillia Museum of Arts & History, and the City of Orillia’s Community Services Department

Today, the Council continues to serve the sector, advocating for the needs of artists through partnership programming, resource development, and advocacy. Faced with restrictions and challenges not seen in a hundred years, ODAC has taken steps to support the industry through its COVID-19 resource page and advocacy for the sector at City Hall.  The Board will continue to work on these and other projects that build on its belief that the sector is ultimately stronger together.
