Overview

On November 19, 2020, Ontario Provincial Police Constable, Marc Hovingh died protecting and serving the communities of Manitoulin Island. 

The Ontario Provincial Police has partnered with the Hovingh family and the Manitoulin Island communities to memorialize Marc's life and his unwavering service to his community and the Province of Ontario. 

A cycling event has been planned and will take place on September 18th, 2021 to create a legacy of Marc's life. 

Marc was committed to his family and his community through his work, his church and his desire to help those in need. 

In the spirit of how Marc lived his life, the ride will be raising awareness and funds for The Ontario Provincial Police Youth Foundation, an organization that mirrors what Marc's life displayed, providing for those in need of assistance.

Marc Hovingh Memorial Island Ride - September 18th, 2021

Choose one of the three riding routes below OR plan your own route and ride where you live, either way please register your ride. 

ONE - Choose a ride for free, and make a donation in Marc's name to OPP Youth Foundations, by entering the amount you wish to donate,

TWO - Click on "REGISTER" and complete the information,

THREE - Attend and ride one of the planned routes* OR plan your own route and ride where you are in Memory of Marc

Three ride distances to choose from if you are attending OR plan you own route and ride where you live:

33km - Around Mindemoya Lake ride (10:30 am start time)

The Lake Mindemoya route offers paved shoulders along Highway 551 and is an ideal family route with lots of rest stops scattered throughout. It is very picturesque!

68km - The Green Bay ride (9:30 am start time)

The Green Bay route offers paved shoulders along Highway 551 and Highway 540.   This Route has lots of Hills and Scenery, which includes a variety of landscapes and lakes.   It’s an excellent route to challenge your hill climbs and cardio.  

136km - The Manitowaning ride (8:00 am start)

The Manitowaning route offers a challenge over the distance and has paved shoulders along Highway 551, Highway 540, and Highway 6. This Route has; Hills; Scenery; Lakes and Distance.  It’s an excellent distance route through Island Settlements.

*All cyclists are directed to follow the rules of the road, none of the planned ride routes will have roads closed for the event.
