Did you know: There are hungry young students in every school in Waterloo Region?
A lack of financial resources is not the only reason young people come to school without breakfast or a full lunch box. Plus, people from all walks of life are struggling, and often silently. Business closures, layoffs, and general feelings of isolation also mean parents are feeling financially, mentally, and emotionally depleted in all communities.
A single dad called us before the holidays, asking, “I’ve never had to use community supports before. I’m scared - I can’t afford to send my kids to school with lunch. What can I do?”
Nutrition for Learning’s commitment to universal access to food in schools means that kids don’t need to self-identify as hungry. Food is simply there for all, so that no student needs to feel separate. This is one simple but very powerful way you’re helping us create greater equity for young people in our communities.
However you celebrate the end of the year, we would love to ask you once more to consider ending 2022 with a gift. Even a small donation means that more students are fed, fuelled, and able to learn, create, play, grow, and dream.
