Nunavut Kamatsiaqtut Help Line provides a 24/7 not-for-profit, confidential listening, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention service to individuals of all ages. We respond to people of varying degrees of distress experiencing a wide range of problems such as suicide, violence, trauma, mental and physical illness, bereavement, addictions, relationship issues etc. The volunteers receive training in many areas including active listening, communication skills, crisis and suicide intervention techniques. They help the caller establish goals and priorities. Nunauvt Kamatsiaqtut Help Line is also now a 988 partner as well as a host for 211Nunavut.

Nunavut Kamatsiaqtut contributes to the mental, emotional and physical health and community wellness of northerners by providing suicide prevention, crisis intervention, emotional support, information and other issues without judgment to individuals in need.

Role of the Volunteer:
- Provide callers with support, communicating genuine concern
- Be accepting of the caller’s feelings, and supportive of his/her decisions if not harmful
- Be supportive and encouraging to callers who need assurance of their own worth
- Link the caller to appropriate community resources and referrals (if available)
- Follow direction when available for callers who require special guidelines
- Adhere to the policies of Kamatsiaqtut
