NIGINAN HOUSING VENTURES

about

Our Mission

NiGiNan Housing Ventures, a non-profit company, was formed to address the particular housing needs and requirements of aboriginal people living in Edmonton. Its goals are

to house and keep aboriginal people housed and to enable them to create a home for themselves; to improve the quality of life of the residents; to build community and to involve the residents in the development and management of their community; and to provide residents with a sense of control over their own lives.

About NIGINAN HOUSING VENTURES

Our first development, Ambrose Place, is dedicated to providing housing opportunities for individuals and couples of aboriginal ancestry, who have not been successfully served by any other organization in the City. Ambrose Place was inspired by Ambrose Daniels who died from pneumonia while living on the streets of Edmonton.

Ambrose Place will address two housing needs. Using a housing first approach, it will provide permanent housing and support services. It will also provide safe affordable housing within a culturally sensitive environment for those who do not require supports. Fourteen of the units on the fourth floor will be available for those just seeking safe affordable housing, and the remaining twenty eight units on the second and third floors will be supportive housing. The main floor community facilities include a dining area, a commercial kitchen, a craft room, a TV room, smudge room, a large meeting room, reception area and staff offices.
