Voices of the Land: Bringing Stories to Life through Education and Interpretive Signage

Campaign Overview

The Niagara Geopark is proud to launch Voices of the Land, a fundraising campaign dedicated to honoring the rich geological and Indigenous heritage of the Niagara Region. Through thoughtfully designed educational programs, interpretive panels, and print/digital media, we strive to educate and inspire our community by weaving together the rich stories of Indigenous Peoples with the unique geology and natural wonders of our region.

Interpretive panels placed at key sites across the Geopark are connected with guided tours, field trips, and in-class sessions for Niagara's youth, creating a journey through time that celebrates the enduring relationship between the land and its stewards. Together, we can ensure that these vital stories—rooted in tradition and the deep connection to place—are accessible to all who visit and live here.

Why It Matters

- Honoring Indigenous Heritage: These panels will share stories of the original stewards of this land, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.

- Connecting People to Place: By linking human history to geology, we illuminate the shared legacy of those who have lived here and the natural forces that have shaped our world.

- Promoting Sustainable, Authentic Tourism: By enhancing the Region's profile we will attract international visitors and boost the local economy.

- Community Education: Accessible, beautifully designed interpretive signage connected with thoughtfully developed educational programs will bring the latest science, history, and cultural narratives to locals and visitors alike.

- Building a Legacy: Interpretive signage and educational programs inspire environmental stewardship starting with Niagara's youth, ensuring these stories remain for future generations, fostering respect for the land and its history.

Our Goal

We aim to raise $80,000 to design, create, and install a series of interpretive panels and connected educational programs. These funds will cover:

- Collaborations with Indigenous Knowledge Keepers and historians.

- Research and design of culturally and scientifically accurate signage and educational programs.

- Building materials and printing costs for signs, children's activity books and other marketing materials.

- Installation of interpretive panels at key points of interest within the Niagara Geopark.

- Subsidizing costs of educators to run in-class and field trip sessions for Niagara Youth, keeping education accessible to all.

- General Geopark administrative costs.
