about

Our Mission

The goal of the NFCO Soup Kitchen is to alleviate the pain of hunger. The organization is carried on without purpose of gain for its members and any profits or other gains to the organization are used in promoting these objectives.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, indoor dining ceased in March 2020, and we introduced a bagged lunch service at the building's entrance doors. Like most organizations at the time, we had to be quick on our feet with a pivot to not only ensure the safety of clients, volunteers and employees, but also to continue to carry out our mission: to provide warm and nutritious meals to anyone in need. We were surprised to learn that bagged lunch service made us more accessible to all (different age groups, people with disabilities, etc.) and is a preferred method of service for some of our more vulnerable guests.

With the restriction of volunteers and strict government health and safety protocols the hiring of employees was essential in an effort to maintaining meal distribution to our clients. Now that we have designated employees in place, we have been able to transition from sandwiches to a hot meal: which supports our mission statement and the Canadian Food Guide. On average we serve approximately 200 guests per day, and provide meals to the Out Of The Cold Shelter from November - April.

Our board of directors have a new strategic plan underway, and 2022 will be the year to determine how we best can move forward to continue to carry out our mission, while ensuring the safety of all our guests, employees, and volunteers.
